Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Lorraine is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and started with the practice in April 2022, keen to continue to develop her role in General Practice.

Her nursing career started in 1996 when she began training to become a registered nurse, then completing an honours degree and a prescribing course. She has continued to develop her knowledge and skills, and is currently in the final year of her Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice at Staffordshire University. This will help with her knowledge base in the role of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP).

The ANP role is very rewarding and interesting and includes examining patients with a variety of symptoms, then assessing, and making a diagnosis. Lorraine is then able to treat with appropriate advice or prescription as needed, or refer as necessary for patients requiring specialised care and assessment. There is excellent support from the GP’s as needed to support the role.

Simon Lovatt

Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Simon has worked in clinical roles in the NHS for 30 years, qualifying as a paramedic in 2000. He left the NHS Ambulance Service in 2014 to work in primary and out of hours medical care. The transition resulted in a huge and steep learning curve in developing new assessment, history taking and clinical reasoning skills. Simon has just started his final dissertation year in a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, which has involved countless hours of gaining new knowledge, essays, exams and observed clinical practice with mentorship from senior GP colleagues. He has spent the last few years working in a busy general practice in Powys, as an established part of the clinical team. The skillset, extended practitioners develop over their careers increases every day as they meet and treat patients of all ages and conditions. As an independent prescribers Simon is aware of the importance of long term and acute health needs.
